People look at me
And they think
I don't have much,
For this is all they see.
But if they would look
With open eyes
And from the heart,
Then they would see
How rich I am.
First of all
I have my kids;
Six wonderful souls
That came from me,
(Of all the miracles
To behold)
I have their smiles,
Their bright new eyes
That look at me
With so much love.
Their bells like laugh
That fill my days
And light up my nights.
And though, at times,
We fight and cry,
They are still the best
In my life by far;
They make it all
Worthwhile.
I have my cats
That warm my lap
And my feet
On winter's nights,
That can tell at a glance
If I am happy or sad,
And share themselves
With such simple trust.
I love their soft furs...
And their loud purrs...
But most of all,
I love their eyes
When they look at me
And they say quietly
"I am yours,
You are mine"
I have my family
And my friends
That love me
And support me
When I fail,
And hold my hand
When times are tough,
And rejoice
With my good luck.
But that is not all
That I have,
For I am the richest
Person, by far.
I have the rain
And I have the sun,
The faraway stars
Twinkling trhough the night,
The soft, calm glow
Of the moon as well,
Sometimes lighting my path,
Others, shying away.
I have the birds
That teach my soul
About freedom,
And my imagination
To fly.
I have the songs
Of the wind
In the trees.
The unasuming murmur
Of the cool grass
Growing under my feet.
The plants, and the flowers,
Their explotion of colors,
And textures,
And shapes,
When all of the sudden
They take to the skies
As winged butterflies...
And the sounds
And the smells,
And the dance
Of this earth
Intoxicating my senses
And lifting me high!
And even the sadness
Enriches my life,
For it helps me grow
And strengthen my soul,
my heart
and my mind,
And it teaches me
How to appriciate
The every day miracles
Of all that I have!
